The job
At Jumbo Shipping you will do more than just sailing: loading and sea fastening cargoes, discharging cargoes in hard to reach ports, the emphasis on working safely at all times, operating the cranes or determining the route of the ship. At Jumbo, you really ‘work’  with the vessel and its cargo.

As 2nd Officer you will be responsible for all security relates matters on board. You will take care of a save and economical travel preparation and be responsible for the IT management on board of the ship. The 2nd officers serve as deck-officer on board the assigned vessel and assist the chief officer in preparing and accomplish cargo operations, also you will be able to train junior officers and trainees in the field of 2nd officer.

As 2nd officer there are a few competence that are very important to successfully fulfill the job.

• Reliability (being able to provide complete and accurate information about the ship and it’s cargo, fulfill work carefully and precisely and communicate openly, honestly and in time)
• Safety and quality awareness (be aware of the importance to provide the quality of work and controlling your own actions)
• Cooperate (Help colleagues to achieve their goals and provides assistance where needed.)

Requirements

• Reliability (communicate openly, honestly and in time is able to keep promises and given affirmation)
• Basic knowledge of Flag State and International Maritime Rules and Regulations
• Basic knowledge of safe ship operations
• Basic knowledge of cargo handling
• Leadership skills and communicative qualities, able to work in a team
• Knowledge of the Dutch and English language through the spoken and written word
• In possession of a valid “Certificate of Competency” as per Zeevaartbemanningswet / STCW 1995 resolution for the assigned vessel
• General Operator’s Certificate GMDSS
• Valid Certificate of Fitness for Seafaring (“Schepelingenbesluit art.31)
• Advanced firefighting certificate
