The job
At Jumbo Shipping you will do more than just sailing: loading and sea fastening cargoes, discharging cargoes in hard to reach ports, the emphasis on working safely at all times, operating the cranes or determining the route of the ship. At Jumbo, you really ‘work’ with the vessel and its cargo.

As Chief Officer you’re responsible for the management of the work on deck and at the bridge. You will not only train and coach the second and third officers but also the bosuns and able seaman. Together with the captain you will evaluate the calculations and drawings made by the Engineering Department concerning the cargo. Before arrival in port you will prepare all (un)loading activities.

As Chief officer there are a few competence that are very important to successfully fulfill the job.
Reliability (being able to provide complete and accurate information about the ship and it’s cargo, fulfill work carefully and precisely and communicate openly, honestly and in time)
Safety and quality awareness (be aware of the importance to provide the quality of work and controlling your own actions)
Cooperate (Help colleagues to achieve their goals and provides assistance where needed.)

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of Flag State and International Maritime Rules and Regulations
• Basic knowledge of safe ship operations
• Basic knowledge of cargo handling
• Leadership skills and communicative qualities, able to work in a team
• Knowledge of the Dutch and English language through the spoken and written word
• In possession of a valid “Certificate of Competency” as per Zeevaartbemanningswet /STCW 1995 resolution for the assigned vessel
• General Operator’s Certificate GMDSS
• Valid Certificate of Fitness for Seafaring (“Schepelingenbesluit art.31)
• Advanced firefighting certificate
